Day of Dead in Los Angeles

The celebration of All Souls Day, the Day of the Dead is annual Los Angeles tradition among the Mexican community. While every neighborhood of LA has their own cultural festivities - from block parties to sacred tributes - the Day of the Dead honors the departed with processions, live music, costumes and dances. This cultural holiday is also a day when people build ornate altars for loved ones who have passed.

El Dia de los Muertos at Hollywood Forever Cemetery -

Oct. 27 - Enjoy performances and ceremonial tributes at this historic cemetery with Hollywood's most famous celebrity graves.

Olvera Street Merchants Day of the Dead -

Oct. 25 - Join the processions through the Mexican market on Olvera Street at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument. The historic Pico House features a Day of the Dead art exhibit.

A Day of the Dead Celebration at LA Plaza -

Oct. 28 - Honor Mexican heritage at the LA Plaza de Cultura y Arte Mexican with cultural performances, craft making and face painting in downtown Los Angeles.

Dia de Los Muertos at Self Help Graphics -

Oct. 25 - Dec. 1 - This traditional arts celebration includes a procession, crafts, food, mask-making and entertainment in East Los Angeles.

Autry National Center -

Oct. 27 - The Autry National Center in Griffith Park hosts a family celebration with performances, arts and crafts, storytelling, and a procession. Día de los Muertos Festival at the Museum of Latin American Art - Oct. 28 - This museum in Long Beach features an altar display, face painting, craft workshops, performances, tours, and great food.
