The Diverse Beaches of Los Angeles -

The quintessential image of Los Angeles is of people hanging out on the beach all day, getting tan, surfing, and playing volleyball in the sand. There are actually over twenty beaches to choose from in LA County, and they all offer something a little different from each other. One of the best Los Angeles beaches for surfing is Zuma Beach just north of Malibu. This popular surf spot is known for its tasty waves and clear waters. Another surfer beach is Manhattan Beach. This is also the reputed birthplace of beach volleyball, and a great place to go on long, shoreline walks.

LA Beaches for Families, Nature, and Folks -

Heading to the beach with the kids? Redondo Beach is a good Los Angeles beach for families with lots of outdoor activities from building a sand castle to biking or skating on the paved pathways. For a beachside carnival atmosphere, head to Santa Monica Beach, home to Pacific Park amusement park on Santa Monica Pier. If you want to check out tide pools, head to Malibu Lagoon State Beach. Abalone Cove is also full of neat sea creature encounters. Venice Beach is the place to be for people watching along the palm tree lined boardwalk. It has a well-deserved reputation for attracting free spirits, and it's also home to shopping and dining.
